Busy Day Cake

Mix together dry ingredients except sugar. Soften butter, beat in sugar, then egg and vanilla. Fold in milk and dry ingredients; do not overbeat. Bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes.

Wanda's Chocolate Sheet Cake

Put cocoa, butter and water in a large pan and bring to a boil. Let cool slightly. Beat eggs. Add buttermilk, sugar and vanilla while beating. Mix dry ingredients. Add everything to large pan with cocoa mixture, mix together, don't overbeat. Pour into a sheet cake pan. Bake at 400 degrees for 20 minutes.

Wanda's Chocolate Icing

Beat and soften butter. Slowly add remaining ingredients. Add nuts to taste.

Elizabeth's Icing

Beat egg whites and corn syrup in double boiler over boiling water until stiff. Beat in sugar and vanilla.

Seven Minute Frosting

Beat in double boiler over boiling water for 7 minutes.

Red Velvet Cake

Mix together dry ingredients except sugar. Soften butter, beat in sugar, then eggs, vanilla, food coloring, and vinegar. Fold in dry ingredients and buttermilk; do not overbeat. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes in layer cake pans. Frost when cool with white vanilla frosting.

Orange Cake

Mix together dry ingredients except sugar. Beat eggs, adding sugar. Beat in oil, orange juice concentrate, and orange rind. Fold in dry ingredients; do not overbeat. Bake in tube pan at 325 degrees for 35 minutes.

Orange Icing

Root Beer Cake

Mix together dry ingredients except sugar. Beat butter until soft. Beat in eggs, sugar, and vanilla. Fold in flour mixture with root beer; do not overbeat. Bake in a flat pan at 375 degrees for 35 minutes.

Marie's Happy Day Cake

Mix together dry ingredients except sugar. Beat butter until soft. Beat in eggs, sugar, and vanilla. Fold in flour mixture with root beer; do not overbeat. Bake in a flat pan at 375 degrees for 35 minutes. Good with strawberries.

Pound Cake

Beat butter until soft. Beat in eggs, sugar, vanilla and spices. Fold in flour. Bake in a loaf pan lined with buttered paper at 300 degrees for 1 1/2 hours or until done.

Marie's Devils Food Cake

Mix soda and flour. Beat butter until soft. Beat in eggs, sugar, vanilla, and melted chocolate. Fold in flour mixture with buttermilk; do not overbeat. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes (or until done) in layer cake pans.

Carrot Cake

Mix together dry ingredients except sugar. Beat eggs; beat in sugar. Add oil, carrots and nuts. Fold in flour mixture; do not overbeat. Bake in a flat pan at 325 degrees for 45 minutes.

Katie's Cream Cheese Frosting

Let cream cheese and butter soften at room temperature; beat together with vanilla. Slowly beat in powdered sugar.

Orange Rum Cake

Cream butter and beat in 1 cup sugar and grated rind of oranges and lemon. Beat in eggs one at a time. Mix together flour, baking powder, soda and salt, and fold in with buttermilk and walnuts; do not overbeat. Bake in a tube pan at 300 degrees for about 1 hour.

Strain juice of oranges and lemon into a saucepan with rum. Add remaining 1 cup sugar. Bring to a boil. Remove cake from oven and pour syrup over it while still in the pan. May let stand 2 to 3 days.)
